Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself immensely. I will let the pictures do the talking now. I do not have the best camera, but thank god for friends who do ^^ Because of copyright issues, I will only post those pictures I took from my phone.
The view on the bus ride was amazing, but I was so tired, I went to sleep soon after getting onto the bus.
Quaint little cathedral.
Snow-capped roofs on houses!
Bald trees!
Semi frozen lake.
First hostel we stayed in! It was so homey and cozy. It was so nice that I was so disappointed in the hostel we stayed after this.
View on the bus again.
The Vasaloppet museum! It was interesting, but very very small.
People of famous people completing the Vasaloppet. I only knew 2 of them, I think. So not very famous after all!
The finishing line of the event. Not very impressive by my standards, but it is cool.
Ski shoes! I am always pleasantly surprised and pleased that their equipment is always in good condition.
Putting on the skis. Because of my bad experience in Korea, I did not like skiing. This experience changed my mindset, I am saying yes to cross-country skiing yo!
Blueberry soup (It tastes sweet, not salty.) and a sausage bun for fika!
Tacos for dinner!
My Taco! It was delicious! and I missed my corn (it is expensive here) so much I ate a lot of corn that night. Free flow, so why not?
My first experience with pulka. (which is just sledding in Swedish.) It was so fun, but not as easy to control as the one in Korea! It only involved a little plastic for your butt. Hahahahaha. I swiveled 360 degrees. Hahahaha.
The map of Dalarna, the place we stayed for one night in Orsa before moving on to Jämtland.
Nice view!
The hostel we stayed in. On our way there, I saw many red houses with white trimmings for windows. Apparently, there is a reason for that. The red paint came from the residue from mining copper, and it is cheaper that other paint colours. So in the past, poor people used this colour to paint their houses. Wealthier families which have white or yellow houses. However, in order to show that they are not too poor, the people who painted their houses red painted the trimmings white to show that they were not too poor. So I suppose it means that they are the average household. Hahaha. They are very nice to look at, so I do not mind so much anyway!
Lady painting handcrafted Dala horses. They are really intricate and really expensive as well. I bought one for the house and one for myself. I could not resist. :(
Rows and rows of Dala horses!
This 7cm one costs 122:-! Which is about 24.40 SGD for one little horsie. :(
Pretty!
From the other end!
These were the ones I bought. A small pink one for myself and the big red one for the house.
The place we stopped by for lunch!
My cucumber as a snack!
Beautiful sunset.
Opps. Sunrise, I meant.
One more!
Look at the pretty houses we passed by.
The place where we took the cable car up. Children here start skiing at such a young age!
A picture of the 2 Rebeccas and Peiyi!
White snow is white. We went to Mora in Dalarna then to Åre in Jamtland. This was on Åre mountain! This place has first class ski resorts. Hahaha.
Fika with delicious cinnamon buns and blue fruit tea. I am in love with the tea. Nomnom.
Zoomed in!
45 minutes after we fika-ed, we had lunch. I was so full. But I ate my lunch anyway. The hamburger sauce was yummy!
The mountain we were about to climb......
Behind us, the cable cars we took up the mountain.
Put on the snow shoes and I am all ready to go!
Nina showing us the route. Omg, it was not a short route. :(
The climbing that awaited me....
Can you imagine I was perspiring in ~-3 degrees temperature?! IT WAS WARM. I removed all the layers I could, but I was still so warm. I have to say that the view above was so so so so worth it.
Looking beyond the mountain peak.
A selfie with the sun!
I am almost in the clouds! Hahaha. Not just yet.
The sun was very bright. Regretted not bringing my sunglasses. Hahaha.
I did not know that my phone could take such amazing panoramas!
A selfie on the top of the mountain. Hahaha.
One more!
I left my mark on the mountain with a star. I hope it is still doing well!
Going downhill through the forest!
We reached the bottom! By now, the windows on the bus was very dirty, so the pictures looks really murky and disgusting. Hahaha.
There were cars on the lake! Apparently, it was Volkswagen doing some event on the ice.
Church on Åre mountain.
Cute little thingamagics.
Cool cafe! But I do not dare go in. No money!
Let the reindeer ceremony begin! The teachers made so much effort to do this. They brought sound systems and light.....like a party. Hahaha. We had to go out in the cold for 15 minutes for the ceremony.
We were divided into groups and we had to prepare meals. I was in Wolverine and this was one of the meals we made. Breakfast! I think it looks absolutely delicious! I only sliced the cucumbers. Hahaha.
A typical breakfast on the trip. Of course I had second helpings!
Typical Fika!
Rehearsing for the skit. I miscalculated and accidentally volunteered for one of the main roles. Thank god I did not screw up. Hahaha. It was fun though!
Nice skies!
We got 4th (second last) in the reindeer trophy.....BUT. I got a pink medal! Hehehehe. <3
We went to visit the Sami people, and my professor here held on to their flag.
The place where they slept! There is a hole on top and the ground was filled with reindeer skin and christmas tree branches! There is a fire in the middle of the kota(?)
The tree which had the delicious stuff the reindeers love to eat!
Amazing skyline again.
More reindeers. It was very interesting because I did not know that reindeers change their antlers every year! Furthermore, Their antlers shows their power. Antlers = more priority to food. No wonder the females get antlers in winter (for the babies) and the males get them in the warmer weather!
Never expected reindeers to be white either.
Reindeers and I
In the modernised tent, where we had a mini lecture by the Sami lady!
In the Sami kota(?) which is shown as above! This is how it looks like inside. I got the mom's place. Hoho.
Shoe made of reindeer skin!
It is cool that the Sami people use up all parts of the reindeer and only leave a handful of stuff to be dumped. So environmentally friendly!
Display cabinet filled with Sami handcrafts!
A place where we went to the toilet. I suppose this is how a typical house in sweden would look like inside?
Biggest waterfall in Sweden! Not very big though it was very iced up!
Getting ready to go back to Linköping. :'(
Dushan(?) singing us a song he improvised for Nordic Culture. <3
Because of the trip, I bought peas. We has peas for one meal and I fell in love with it! It was so so so good. Like corn! 1 kg of peas. Heh heh.
The pictures are all jumbled up! Hahaha. This is a picture of the first meal we had on the trip. Tacos for dinner!
One of the meals, macaroni with meatballs and beetroot. I did not like this meal. I could not stomach macaroni without sauce....
Best meal ever! Look at the amount of crispbreads!
My first helping!
Jam cookies!
Most fattening pancakes ever. I saw the amount of oil the lumberjack put in and went. 0.0 Hahaha. It was good though. I would have gotten a second helping if I did not see him cook!
The stove....
Jamtli Museum! Looks good!
Tapestry from the Viking times. So well preserved, I was scrutinising it. Hahaha.
Prettiest cupboard ever! I wanna grab one and bring it home >.<
I went down the slide! ^^ It was for kids. But I could not help myself!
The lake monster! I went down his belly.
This trip was so amazing I have decided that it is okay even if I can only get 3 aus out of this module for UE. I enjoy the experience. :)
I am so backlogged in terms of updating the blog because I had a report due. Let's pretend that I posted this on time. :)
